Lots of great ladies again at this luncheon and some new faces have joined us!
Darla Pompilio of Your Tasks, Our Time was our featured speaker and organization was the topic – a topic many of us were in need of tips. She was full of great advice and even offered 2 prizes for lucky members to receive her services.
Listed below are some notes from her presentation.
General
• Organization most important factor in good work habits
• Majority of people can’t see their desks
• Increase productivity 1-2 hours a day by being organized
• Figuring $15/hour the cost of being unorganized (time spent looking for or re-doing things, etc) about $2400 a year wasted – PER employee
• 2 Key Areas to discuss today
o Papers/Filing
o Email
• To Determine the type of system you will use decide: What you need & how you think
• Practice using the system
• Take time to get used to it and MAKE IT A HABIT
Paper/Filing
o Block out time to sort/organize
o If it’s a large project break it down
o Start with the things that bug you the most
o Have supplies ready (bins, file folders…etc)
o Decide what works best for you – To do
Box
Folder
List
o Make 3 piles (do not think further than that in this step)
Keep
Recycle
Shred
o Keep pile will be sorted again too
To Do
Delegate
Defer (this will be sorted into your tickler file, an accordion file with 1-31 for days of the month)
Filing
o To Do file/box/list should be empty at the end of the day
o File – empty the file box/folder weekly
Email – Two Types
o Reference
This should be moved to appropriate file
o Action
Put on to do list or into Action folder
OR DO
o Block out specific time to tend to email – Do Not be on all day
o Keep file titles short and clear so that you remember what is where and what goes where
Over All Office/Organization Tips

• Be Patient, Flexible & Consistent when getting started
We had a number of new members and guests this month and many signed up for our new 1-2-1 program matching up members with one another for one on one meetings.
After a quick review and approval from the members on our 2011 By-laws we enjoyed an excellent lunch and networking while listening to a presentation by one of our most ulitized members, Dr. Claire DeFazio of Windsor Hill Chiropractic Center.
Following are some notes from Claire’s helpful presentation on nutrition. Thank you, Dr. Claire!!
• Finds in Chiropractic Care weight often helps to create/worsen the problem
• Even “fit” people may not get proper nutrition or eat well
• Not just the type of food you eat, but the time-frame you eat in
• High sugar causes inflammation (major cause of many diseases/ailments)& premature aging
• If you eat sugar when you first wake up you immedietly shut off the fat-burn you are already in
• Eat every 3 hours – fueling breaks! – to prevent bottoming out, dramatic insulin ups & downs & cravings
• Cravings mean you didn’t have a good fuel break (see list for good fuel break food)
• Manage the timing of eating will help fat burn, metabolism & keeping muscle mass
• Be Prepared – cut up veggies & fruit and have them readily available
• Glycemic Index – standard to know what raises blood sugre. High Glycemic index foods hold on to fat & increases weight gain
• Make changes NOW. Before you “need” it or before it gets hard.
• When you eat better food cravings will dramatically reduce
• Keep veggies as close to raw as possible. Lightly steam
• Eat one hour before a workout
• Eat within 30 minutes of waking up
• Snack (good stuff) in the evening
This month’s luncheon was so full of new networkers every seat was filled!
Susan Uphold had some good luck winning both the member raffle of a free acupuncture treatment from Andrea Deardorff of Inner Garden Acupuncture and $44 in our 50/50 raffle.
Exhibit tables were full of member items for display as well as a full table display including desserts from our luncheon sponsor, Genevieve Le Bel of Celebrate Today…the Superchick Way! And she definitely showed us some amazing examples of her superchick work. Genevieve’s creativity is matched by her enthusiasm and anyone meeting her could see she would bring a spark to any event. She left us with a list of 10 party planning tips and stomachs full of great treats. For more information check out her website or blog at www.celebrate2da.com
This month we were pleased to award Cathy Paretti of the Gallery School in Pottstown with a check for $3000 from funds raised during our Annual Halloween Party at Country Creek Winery. Cathy let us know that this money would go towards their scholarship fund where they already have a waitlist of children who cannot afford classes and are interested as so many schools in the area have cut funding for the arts. Many thanks again to all the WRN members and sponsors who made this year’s event a great success. For more information on the Gallery School visit www.galleryonhigh.com
Our speaker this month was Annie Stone of Mind Matters Coaching. Annie addressed some of the things that contribute to stress in our daily lives and how to go from feeling like we were “losing our minds” to finding it and using it wisely. She showed us how to be an expert at your own thoughts connecting with people, accomplishing goals, completing tasks and how to find overall joy in the journey. Annie showed us an example of her Intentional Creation profile which the 15 minute profile is available on our site with a free 20 minute follow up consultation by Annie. This month’s speaker was Gordon Bennett author of “Give Yourself a Raise”. The following are a few notes from his presentation on the Financial Freedom System.
What comes to mind when you think of money?
– The experience of lacking money is always more clear and can be a bad topic.
Risk Factors to Your Financial Success
1st Risk Factor
– Job/income stability
2nd Risk Factor
– Emergency Fund – the “Just in case” account
– Money in bank is a powerful anti-depressant
– If you know you can cover car-repair, it isn’t as traumatic when it happens (and it will)
– Helps you to weather tough times
3rd Risk Factor
– Debt Level
– Stop Digging the Hole
– No debt = more choices
How to Give Yourself a Raise
– Get Rid of the Waste in your Life
– Do you know what you spend on what?
– Pay for what you get right away, avoid interest and overpaying.
– Stop chaining yourself to your credit cards
– Pay Self First!
- 10% to savings before anything else
– Live Within Your Means
– Escrow vs. Emergency Money
o Escrow is savings for things you know are coming such as taxes, utilities, etc.
o Emergency is 1-3 months’ salary set aside for the things you DON’T know are coming or know are coming but can’t predict when such as car repair, job loss or a major appliance failure
– 401K
o Keep it and never touch it
Final Thoughts
– It’s not as complicated as you think
– It won’t get better if you ignore it
– You MUST be involved with your money

March Speaker Lisa Peskin – The Top 10 Secrets to Success in Sales
Lisa Peskin was raised with her father telling her she should have her own business, be her own boss and make her own money. To her that meant being a doctor and as she went through classes for pre-med she discovered being a doctor was not her passion. She changed her bachelor’s degree to psychology and went on to receive an MBA. Lisa has since lead large sales organizations and been a top performer but her passion of helping others be successful has lead her to opening the Business Development University.
For someone who was once as she described very shy, she has come a long way leading one of the more dynamic and informative presentations we have had at WRN Montco. For over a year Lisa interviewed a number of top sales people and organizations to find out what made them successful and she shared with us what she found to be the Top 10 Secrets to Success in Sales.
1. Have a Strategic Plan
Have a business plan for how you are going to move forward. If you do not have a plan they way she described creating one was to imagine that you were going on a vacation for 3 months and would have no communication with the person who would take over your role while you were gone. What instructions step by step would you have them do, what order, etc?
2. Be Goal Oriented
Put your goals in writing and be sure to include both Activity and Results oriented goals. She described creating the goals to be S.M.A.R.T. – Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. She reminded us of the timely and realistic stating that sometimes we focus on large, futuristic almost unattainable goals and suggested we spend time focusing on goals that can be accomplished in the next 3 months or less.
3. Effective Time Management
The best sales people know how to manage their time. The best way to manage your time is to have….goals and a strategic plan. On average a person wastes 2.5 hours a day. To put it in perspective if you made 100k a year that’s on average over $40 an hour and over $100 wasted a day.
4. Stop Selling
She encouraged us to look at ourselves as consultants not saleswomen and to ask more questions, to find the problem and offer a solution. A great idea she had was to model yourself after a physician. A doctor doesn’t come in and tell you where they went to school and why they are good, they ask questions and try to solve your problem. Find out how you can help first and be sure you are the right person to meet their needs and that you are speaking to the right person in an organization.
5. Consistently Prospect and Build Your Pipeline
She found that in the end it really is a numbers game. Consistent Results come from Consistent Activity. Remember to network and follow through. Use LinkedIn and other ways to stay connected and build your reach.
6. Maximize Your Opportunities with Current and Past Connections
Keeping a client is easier than getting a new one. Make sure to stay connected for referrals and future business. She says “squeeze the lemon” get the most out of each connection; ask for testimonials from every satisfied customer.
7. Organization Skills
She found really great sales comes from really great organization skills. Keeping your calendar, your system, everything organized.
8. A Great Attitude
She noted that sometimes it’s not always the smartest person who gets the sales but it’s the one who gets out there, sees people face to face with a smile on their face and shows up to work with a great attitude. It’s all the between the ears and in your heart. She reminded us of the quote by Henry Ford “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
9. Willing, Committed and Able
Are you willing and committed to being successful and setting yourself up with the skills to succeed? You have to commit to being successful.
10. Avoid Going to Buyer School
What she meant by this was to set clear expectations with buyers, not to give everything away for free or waste time with someone who will not commit to a yes, no or next step. Don’t get dragged along by a customer so they just learn from you and shop elsewhere.
We hope everyone enjoyed Lisa’s presentation and appreciate the time she took to share with us. If you would like more information about Lisa or some of the presentations and classes she offers visit http://www.businessdevelopmentu.com/.
March Sponsor Jane Butler – Accessible Home Health Care
Accessible Home Health Care provides reliable and compassionate care to anyone needing assistance in the home. Services include, but are not limited to; bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, laundry, transportation to appointments or companionship.
What we learned from Jane’s presentation about her business this month was a lot more than just what services her company provides but what the name and the slogan “We Guarantee Compassionate Care” really does mean and how that differentiates Jane and her company.
Jane is the primary contact for her business. If clients have a concern or something happens in off hours, the voice they will hear on the phone is Jane’s. The services they provide are what anyone who cared for a parent or anyone with adult needs would provide and really are not limited as she says to bathing, dressing and medical needs. They will accompany a client to bingo, the cemetery, church, the store, they are true compassionate caregivers.
Jane personally interviews everyone who works for her company including the references. She not only looks for certifications and requirements but whether the individual fits the profile of offering compassion. Her orientation program, requirements for hire, certification requirements and continuing education for staff are extensive well beyond what are required as the industry standard. In addition to Jane interviewing the staff for hire she also allows families to interview and select the caregivers who are assigned to their family, a service rarely offered by other companies.
If you would like to contact Jane or would like more information about Accessible Home Health Care visit them online at http://www.accessiblemontcopa.com. Many thanks to Jane for being this month’s luncheon sponsor.
Thank you to everyone who managed to reschedule to attend the February luncheon! We still had a great turnout and hope everyone enjoyed lunch, networking and the presentations. Below is a quick review of the presentations from Sue Uphold and Angela Klisch.
February Speaker:
Susan Uphold RD, LDN. A nutrition & wellness counselor and owner of ForLife Nutrition was our February Speaker. Susan’s topic was “Maintaining a Healthy Heart” in honor of February Heart Health Month. As woman we take care of everyone, we need to remember to take care of ourselves. As the “Heart of the Family” you must take care of your heart.
Susan stressed the importance of not being overwhelmed by changes to make yourself healthier. Take small steps to get to where you want to be. She outlined 5-easy steps to improve heart health:
1. 2-3 servings of Fruits & Vegetable every day. Just lots & lots of fruits & vegetables.
2. Whole Grains. Choose foods with “Whole Grains” in the list of ingredients instead of those that don’t have that listing. Look for 3 grams of fiber per serving within your grains/starches
3. Low Fat & Fat Free Dairy
4. Low Fat Proteins – Trade off the red meats (beef, pork & lamb) for dried beans, fish, chicken & turkey.
5. Activity – get moving. Choose activities you enjoy and go for it!
Susan also shared many great health & nutrition related organizations:
